Types of Reports in SSRS

Using SQL Server reporting services, you may build various reports, render them in various formats, plan the report-generating process, schedule the delivery of the report to the recipients, and more.
In this article, you’ll learn what kinds of reports you may produce using SSRS to compile and deliver.

  • Parameterized reports: For the purpose of processing reports or data, this kind of report uses input values.
  • Linked reports: An existing report is given a point by a linked report. In other words, a report server item that links to an existing report is referred to as a connected report.
  • Snapshot reports: A snapshot report can be retrieved at a specified moment and provides layout details and query results. Or you can say, Reports that include layout details and query results that were retrieved at a certain time are known as snapshot reports.
  • Cached reports: A processed report that has been saved in a cache. By lowering the volume of processing requests and the time it takes to get huge reports, they are utilized to improve performance. However, they have a required time limit, typically measured in minutes.
  • Ad hoc reports: Ad hoc reports are those that are generated or developed at the request of the user. Typically, they are developed to serve a certain purpose or provide an exact response. Any of the above specified or below specified reports can also be called as Ad hoc reports.
  • Clickthrough reports: A clickthrough report is a report that displays related data from a report model when you click the interactive data contained within your model-based report. On the basis of the data in the report model, the report server generates these reports. Reports on clickthrough are generated automatically.
  • Drilldown reports: These reports can help you hide complexity. Users can choose which hidden report elements to display depending on how much detail they wish to view. All information that can be displayed in the report must be retrieved.
  • Drillthrough reports: Drillthrough reports are standard reports that are accessed through a hyperlink on a text box in the original report. Drillthrough reports work with a main report and are the target of a drillthrough action for a report item such as placeholder text or a chart.
  • Subreport: Sub-reports are reports that, as the name implies, display a different report inside the body of the primary report.

A single report, however, may have characteristics from multiple types. Snapshot reports, for instance, can be parameterized. Ad hoc reports may have a clickthrough report feature. Linked reports can be subreports.
