SSRS Error – cannot open a connection to the report server

The following error message has occasionally been reported by SSRS users who browse the online portal after installing it.

The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database.

The error message makes the issue quite clear. It claims that the SSRS service is unable to connect to the “report server” database that was set up in the supplied database engine during the SSRS configuration.

The reason could be –

  • Instead of using the configured password, you entered your PIN number to in into Windows.
  • Your Windows account lacks the permissions required to read and write to SQL Server.
  • The “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Reporting Services\SSRS” folder is not accessible to your Windows account.
  • if the SSRS-configured instance is not currently operational.
  • If the user credentials used in the SSRS configuration have been altered in any way.

Hope this solves the problem. If not, drop a message.
